Saying goodbye to 5th grade

Today was Shea's recognition program and 5th grade banquet.
Kayla did her hair beautifully!
Note the high heels... Shea spent her allowance on these cute shoes.
Black just would work.
Thank goodness for a sister willing to take her emergency shoe shopping!

Shea earned "Overall Academic Achievement"
YAY!

The many faces of Braden....

Braden recently had to do a project for English... they are reading Romeo and Juliet and the teacher asked them to make a mask representing on of the charecters. Braden chose Mercutio. The mask turned out great! (a bit of help from dad, of course:)

Back to School!!!

My neighbor was nice enough to take pictures of Shea and Braden on her iphone... I really do think they are the most amazing, wonderful kids in the world. (especially now that they are gone most of the day:)

They both had great first day of school.
Shea - 5th grade
Ms. Barkowsky

Braden - 9th grade
10 classes
early morning seminary
marching band until 6 pm
and I just know he's going to be cheerful about it all!

4th Grade Recognition

"Excellence in Reading"
was Shea's award

She wanted a "princess bun without the tiara"
She did her own nails.
Sparkly purple. Of course.

Wow!
Not sure I like this grown up look.

Braden had a concert at the same time
so Robert was at the Junior High
and Andrew went with me.
Love those kids!!

Science Projects with the Professor

Things I don't do with my kids
Decorate Easter eggs
Carve pumpkins
And Science Projects
My reasoning...
I carried them INSIDE my body for
9 looooong, not very fun, months
That absolves me from AT LEAST 3 things...
don't you agree?
These jobs belong to
the professor
who cheerfully (most of the time) gets it done
Braden's project is the effects of different types of water on house plants. Going well so far. These are the BEFORE pictures. Project will be done in a week or so and they don't look quite as healthy.
he is a scientist after all
14 years of higher education highly qualifies a person to do
4th & 8th grade science projects. I have no such qualifications.
Shea's FIRST project was with goldfish. But they died.
So she and the professor are doing a taste/smell project.
Involving icecream
garlic
lemon juice
mint
and other smelly things....
Andrew was a very willing subject
This is our neighbor, Corrie. She even brought
over her parents who were vising from Maryland.
Great sports!!
